India has agreed to take over Chabahar Port for the next 10 years. Indian Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal can leave for Iran on Monday to sign the agreement. This will be the first time that India will manage a port abroad. Through this port, India will also be able to keep an eye on the plans of Pakistan and China. There is also a plan to connect Chabahar with the International North South Transport Corridor which will directly connect India to Russia via Iran.

The port is seen as India's key connectivity link to Afghanistan, Central Asia and the larger Eurasian region, which will help it maintain an eye on Pakistan's Gwadar port as well as China's Belt and Road Initiative. There is a plan to connect Chabahar to the International North South Transport Corridor (INSTC) which connects India to Russia via Iran. Let us tell you that this port will enable India to reach Afghanistan and Central Asia. There will be no need of Pakistan for this now.
The Ministry of External Affairs in April approved a proposal by India Ports Global to take over operations at Myanmar's Sittwe port in the Bay of Bengal. Experts say that Sonowal is traveling during an important election campaign, which shows the importance of the agreement that has been in the making for the last few years. This agreement will enable India to run the port for which it has managed the funds for expansion. This deal is being made at a time when there is a crisis situation in West Asia.
