2. Parabens:
Parabens are used as preservatives in cosmetic products. Studies have shown that parabens can cause hormonal imbalance and are believed to increase the risk of breast cancer. Therefore, buy products which are labeled 'paraben-free'.
3. Formaldehyde
Formaldehyde is used in many household items, such as furniture, carpets and nail hardeners. This chemical can increase the risk of skin, nose and throat cancer. Avoid buying products with formaldehyde smell.
4. Phthalates
Phthalates are used to make plastic products flexible. These chemicals can cause hormone imbalance and are believed to increase the risk of certain types of cancer. Choose products labeled 'phthalate free'.
5. Acrylamide
Acrylamide is found in some foods, especially starch-rich foods cooked at high temperatures, such as French fries and potato chips. This chemical is considered potentially cancer causing. Reduce the consumption of fried and packaged food and give preference to fresh food.
