1st ODI: Mandhana, Deepti and debutant Asha shine in Indian women's victory, crush South Africa by 143 runs



Indian women defeated South Africa by 143 runs in the first match of the 3-match ODI series (ICC Championship Match) with the help of centuries from Smriti Mandhana, Deepti Sharma and Asha Sobhana. With this win, India took a 1-0 lead in the series. In the first ODI match played at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru, India captain Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and decided to bat.

Batting first, India Women posted a score of 265 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 50 overs. Smriti scored the most runs for the team. She scored a century of 117 runs in 127 balls with the help of 12 fours and a six. Deepti Sharma scored 37 runs in 48 balls with the help of 3 fours. 

Pooja Vastrakar remained unbeaten after scoring 31 runs with the help of 3 fours in 42 balls. Mandhana and Deepti added 81 (92) runs for the sixth wicket. Mandhana and Pooja shared a 58 (54) run partnership for the seventh wicket. Ayabonga Khaka took the maximum 3 wickets for South Africa. Masabata Klaas took 2 wickets. Anneri Dirksen, Nonkululeko Mlaba and Nondumiso Shangase managed to take one wicket each. 

Chasing the target, South Africa was all out at 122 in 37.4 overs. Sune Luus scored 33 runs in 56 balls with the help of 4 fours. Sinalo Jafta remained unbeaten by scoring 31 runs in 30 balls with the help of 4 fours. Marizanne Kapp contributed 24 runs in 39 balls with the help of 1 four and 1 six. Debutant Asha Shobhana took the maximum 4 wickets from India's side. 2 wickets went to Deepti's account. Renuka Thakur Singh, Radha Yadav and Pooja managed to take 1 wicket each.
