In the 19th match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, India defeated Pakistan by 6 runs to register their second consecutive win in the tournament. After winning this match, the Indian team has reached the first position in the points table of Group A, while the Pakistani team has slipped to the fourth position after losing 2 out of 2 matches and now their hopes of reaching the Super-8 stage look bleak.
As per the current points table, Team India has secured four points after winning both their matches. This has made their Net Run Rate (NRR) +1.455. India is followed by the United States of America (USA), who have the same number of points as Team India but their Net Run Rate is +0.626. Apart from this, Canada has secured the third spot by defeating Ireland after losing the first match to the USA. As a result, Pakistan and Ireland are currently placed fourth and fifth and are yet to open their account in the points table.
Now the big question is what will Pakistan have to do to stay in the race for Super 8 round qualification? So let us tell you the complete equation for Pakistan to reach the Super-8.
The Babar Azam-led Pakistani team will now have to rely on other teams to perform well in terms of Net Run Rate (NRR). To qualify for the Super 8 stage, Pakistan will first have to win both the remaining matches of the group stage and then hope that USA loses to India and Ireland.
This would mean that the USA would not be able to get six points. Interestingly, if Ireland manages to beat the USA, it will give Pakistan a chance to win their matches by a bigger margin so that they have a better run rate than India or USA and can beat either of them to enter the Super 8 round of the T20 World Cup 2024. If this does not happen, Pakistan is already in trouble and even if they win all the matches, they are likely to be eliminated from the World Cup in the group stage itself. In such a situation, along with their team's victory, Pakistani fans will also be praying for USA to lose both the next matches.
If we talk about Team India, they are currently in the first position and need just one more match to remain the group topper. So even if they beat USA on June 12, they will still have to play a game against Canada. But defeating the US team will almost ensure their place in the Super 8 round.
