After which a huge operation was launched to search for the plane. After hours of search operation, the wreckage of the plane was found in the mountains of Chikanagawa forest. President Lazarus Chakwera said that all 10 people on board the plane have died.

Mourning declared in the country
The official statement from the Malawi government said, "The plane carrying the Vice President, the Honourable Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima, was found this morning in the Chikungwa forest. Unfortunately, all those on board the plane have died. The President has declared a national day of mourning and ordered that all flags be flown at half-mast from today until the day of the funeral."

Chilima has been Malawi's vice president since 2014. According to his profile on the government website, he previously led mobile network Airtel Malawi, and has also worked with Unilever, Coca-Cola and Carlsberg.
