Education in the country can be digitized. Availability of good educational and other textbooks can be increased in villages. For this, the government wants to create a national e-library. Now the National Book Trust (NBT) has signed an MoU with the Department of School Education and Literacy for this work. The national e-library will be a digital library platform.
NBT, which comes under the Higher Education Department of the Government of India, will prepare a framework for the National e-Library. On this basis, it will be decided how the National e-Library is to be developed.
National e-library will be useful for the country in this way
In a program related to the National e-library, Sanjay Kumar, Secretary, Department of School Education and Literacy, said that the National e-library is going to be a very good option to maintain the habit of reading among children. The National e-library will give people access to books 24×7 across the country. Children will be able to read the books on it from any location at any time. This will be very beneficial for those states where people have limited access to libraries.
There will be 10,000 books in 100 languages
Regarding the National e-library, Sanjay Kumar said that children will get access to 10,000 books in 100 languages in the next 2 to 3 years. A 'Content Enrichment Committee' will be formed to select the right books on this platform. The Joint Secretary of the Department, Archana Sharma Awasthi, says that non-academic books will also be included on the National e-library. About 1,000 such books in 23 languages including English will be available on this platform.
Regarding non-academic books, Secretary of Department of Higher Education Sanjay Murthy said that non-academic books also have an important place in the lives of children. They play a role in shaping their academics. Not only this, he also asked NBT to involve academic faculty to prepare good quality books.
National Book Trust director Yuvraj Malik said that the National e-library will work like an Indian encyclopedia or a national repository. It will give recognition to India's knowledge and languages to the world.
