Rajotsava has started in Odisha from 14th June. This festival will last for three days. That is, Rajotsava will be celebrated in Odisha from 14th June to 16th June. It is said that it started from South Odisha which has now become a folk festival of the entire Odisha (Odisha Festival). It is said that just as women menstruate every month, which is a symbol of their physical development, in the same way, this great festival of Rajotsav of Kumari girls is celebrated in Odisha for about four days with great joy and merriment. On that day, the worship of Lord Suryadev has special importance. It is believed that it brings peace and tranquility in future folk life. Rajotsav also has its own social importance.

What do women do?

Although this festival is for unmarried girls, but women of all ages celebrate it with great pomp and show. They wear traditional sarees and attire. They apply mehendi on their hands.

Worship of Lord Jagannath

After waking up in the morning, they apply turmeric-sandalwood paste on their body. They take a holy bath. They worship Mahaprabhu Shri Jagannath Bhagwan. They pray to Lord Jagannath for their future happy life.

What do women eat?

For three days, women eat uncooked food. They do not even take salt in their food. During Rajotsav, women eat seasonal fruits like jackfruit, mango, banana, litchi and pineapple etc. They eat the traditional food of Odisha, Poor-Pitha. They do not even wear slippers on their feet. They do not do any kind of cutting or peeling in the household work for three consecutive days.
