T20 WC 2024: West Indies reached Super 8 with a hat-trick of wins, New Zealand's path became difficult, these 3 players became the heroes of victory

 


 On the basis of Sherfane Rutherford's stormy half-century and excellent bowling by Alzarri Joseph and Gudakesh Motie, West Indies  defeated New Zealand by 13 runs in the T20 World Cup 2024 match played at Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad on Thursday (13 June). With their third consecutive win, the West Indies team has reached the Super 8 round, while New Zealand's path has become very difficult.  

New Zealand, which came out to chase the target, got the first setback at a total score of 20 runs. After this, the Kiwi team could not recover due to wickets falling at short intervals. Glenn Phillips scored 40 runs in 33 balls and Finn Allen scored 26 runs in 23 balls. Apart from these two, no other player stayed on the crease for long. Due to which New Zealand could reach only 139 runs after losing 9 wickets. 

For West Indies, Alzari Joseph took 4 wickets, Gudakesh Moti took 3 wickets and Akeel Hussain took 1 wicket.

Earlier, after losing the toss and opting to bat, West Indies scored 149 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. West Indies lost their 5 wickets for just 30 runs. But Rutherford along with the lower order players handled the innings and took the team to a respectable score. 

Rutherford played an unbeaten inning of 68 runs in 39 balls with the help of 2 fours and 6 sixes.

For New Zealand, Trent Boult took 3 wickets, Tim Southee and Lockie Ferguson took 2-2 wickets and Jimmy Neesham took 1 wicket.
