The New Zealand team, which came out to chase the target, got the first blow in the form of Finn Allen on the very first ball. After this, wickets kept falling at short intervals. Apart from Glenn Phillips (18) and Matt Henry (12), no other batsman could reach double figures. Due to which New Zealand was all out for 75 runs in 15.2 overs.
Afghanistan's Rashid and Farooqi took 4 wickets each, while Mohammad Nabi took 2 wickets.
After being invited to bat first, Afghanistan scored 159 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. Gurbaz along with Ibrahim Zadran gave a great start to Afghanistan. Both of them together made a partnership of 103 runs in 14.3 overs for the first wicket.
Gurbaz played a stormy innings of 80 runs in 56 balls with the help of 5 fours and 5 sixes, for which he was chosen as the Player of the Match. Zadran scored 44 runs in 41 balls, in which he hit 3 fours and 2 sixes. Azmatullah Umarzai also played an innings of 22 runs in 13 balls.
For New Zealand, Trent Boult and Matt Henry took 2-2 wickets and Lockie Ferguson took 1 wicket.
