Ganga Dussehra 2024: This year, the holy festival of Ganga Dussehra will be celebrated on Sunday, June 16. On this day, Ganga pujan and bathing in the river Ganga are considered to be of special importance. It is believed that by worshipping Ganga and bathing on this day, a person gets freedom from the sins committed unknowingly. Ganga Dussehra 2024: Ganga Dussehra is an important festival of Hindus. This festival is celebrated on the Dashami date of Shukla Paksha of Jyeshtha month as the day of descent of river Ganga on earth. On this day, special worship and adoration of river Ganga is done. Bathing in the river Ganga is considered very important on this day. It is believed that by worshipping Ganga and donating after bathing in the river Ganga on Ganga Dussehra, a person gets freedom from sins and sufferings. The thing to note is that after bathing and worshiping in the river Ganga, a person gets freedom from only those sins which are committed by him unknowingly i.e. by mistake.

According to Vishnu Purana, by remembering or chanting the name of the river Ganga, by seeing the river Ganga, by drinking its water, by touching its water and by merely taking a bath in the water of the river Ganga, the sins of a person for three births are destroyed. According to Matsya, Garuda and Padma Purana, a person attains salvation by taking a bath in Haridwar, Prayag and the confluence of the Ganga at the sea.

Keeping an evil eye on someone's belongings or taking them without permission, violence are considered physical sins. These sins are destroyed by bathing in the Ganga and worshipping.

Keeping an evil eye on someone else's wealth or thinking of taking it, constantly thinking ill of someone in the mind are called mental sins, these sins are also removed by bathing in the Ganga.

Theft

If for any reason a person has ever committed theft in his life, this sin is also destroyed by taking bath in Ganga and worshipping it.

To lie

According to the belief, bathing in the Ganga river also washes away the sin of telling a lie for any reason.

It is believed that on the day of Ganga Dussehra, bathing in the Ganga river relieves one from the ill-effects of inappropriate and harsh speech.

If for some reason you are unable to take a bath in the Ganga river on Ganga Dussehra, then remember Ganga Maayya and take a bath in a nearby river. If this is not possible, then take a bath at home by adding some Ganga water to the bathing water. Doing this is also considered as Ganga bath.
