Dashara 2024:  The festival of Dussehra is considered very special in Hinduism. It was on the day of Vijayadashami that Lord Rama killed Ravana and conquered Lanka and freed Mother Sita from it. Seeing this bird on the day of Vijayadashami is considered auspicious

According to astrology, seeing the Neelkanth bird on the day of Vijayadashami is considered very auspicious. It is believed that before the final battle with Ravana, Shri Ram had seen the Neelkanth bird, that is why seeing the Neelkanth on Dussehra day makes all the work successful. In Ramcharitmanas, Goswami Tulsidas has given a very beautiful depiction of the procession of Lord Shri Ram and wrote that while the procession was going out, beautiful auspicious omens started happening in which the Neelkanth bird was pecking grains on the left side.

This bird is considered to be the form of Mahadev

It is considered very auspicious to see the Neelkanth bird on Dussehra. The Neelkanth bird is also considered to be a form of Lord Shiva. Mahadev had consumed the poison that came out during the churning of the ocean. Mahadev drank the cup of poison and kept it in his throat. Due to which his throat turned blue and he came to be known as Neelkanth. It is considered auspicious to see the Neelkanth bird as soon as you wake up in the morning on Dussehra. In olden times, some people in rural areas used to go from house to house with the Neelkanth bird and knock on the door.
